This Privacy Policy describes how Fountain+ ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our products or visit our website at fountain.plus. This policy covers the Fountain+ Exporter, Fountain+ Studio, and the fountain.plus website.

What is Fountain+?

Fountain+ is a suite of screenplay formatting tools for Google Docs. It includes two separate products:

• Fountain+ Exporter — a Google Workspace add-on that runs inside Google Docs. It parses screenplay formatting (Fountain and Mangaplay syntax) and exports to PDF, Final Draft (.fdx), FadeIn, plain text, and Fountain formats. Available on the Google Workspace Marketplace.
• Fountain+ Studio — a Chrome Extension that opens a real-time screenplay companion Side Panel alongside Google Docs. It provides formatted preview, script outline, character and location analysis, statistics, and export. Available on the Chrome Web Store.

These are separate products. Installing one does not install the other.

Fountain+ (also known as Fountain-Plus and Fountain Plus) is part of the Script 2 Storyboard suite of tools, developed by Absolutely Skint (Pistol Taeja).

Google API Services User Data Policy

Fountain+'s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Google User Data We Access

Each Fountain+ product accesses different Google data through different mechanisms.

Fountain+ Exporter (Google Workspace Add-on)

The Fountain+ Exporter requests these Google OAuth scopes:

• documents.currentonly — read-only access to the currently open Google Doc (document body text and title)
• script.container.ui — permission to display menus and dialog windows within Google Docs (no data access)

The Exporter accesses the document body text and document title of the currently open Google Doc. That is all. It does not access Drive file listings, email, contacts, or any other Google services.

Fountain+ Studio (Chrome Extension)

Fountain+ Studio uses the Chrome Extension permission model. Here is every permission and why it is needed:

Chrome permissions:

• sidePanel — opens the Side Panel UI alongside Google Docs. Does not access any user data.
• tabs — detects when a Google Docs tab is active so the Side Panel can sync. Does not read browsing history or other tab content.
• storage — saves user preferences (theme, font size, Side Panel state) via chrome.storage. Does not store document content or personal information.
• identity — authenticates with Google to read the active document via the Google Docs API. Does not access email, contacts, or Google Drive file listings.
• offscreen — renders PDF exports in a hidden page (Chrome requires this for off-screen rendering). Does not run background processes or access data beyond the active export.
• downloads — triggers file download when you export (PDF, FDX, etc.). Does not upload files or access your download history.

Host permissions (network access):

• docs.googleapis.com — reads the currently active Google Doc content for live preview and export. Does not write to, modify, or delete any document.
• www.googleapis.com/oauth2 — fetches your Google account display name and profile picture to show in the Side Panel. Does not access email content, contacts, or calendar.
• oauth2.googleapis.com — handles OAuth token exchange for secure Google sign-in. Does not store tokens on our servers.
• *.googleusercontent.com — loads your Google profile picture. Does not access any other Google-hosted content.
• api.absolutelyskint.com — our first-party analytics endpoint, operated by Absolutely Skint (the developer of Fountain+). Receives anonymous page views and feature usage counts. Does not receive document content, personal data, or account details.

Content script:

Fountain+ Studio injects a small script into Google Docs pages to bridge the page and the Side Panel. This content script detects when a document is open and relays page-level events (such as tab focus and document URL) to the Side Panel via Chrome messaging. The content script does NOT read, modify, or extract document text from the page. Document content is fetched separately through the Google Docs API.

External messaging:

The fountain.plus website and api.absolutelyskint.com can send messages to the extension — for example, to detect whether Fountain+ Studio is installed. No user data flows inbound through this channel.

Fountain+ Studio reads your Google Doc content for live preview and export. It does NOT modify, write to, or delete any document.

How We Use Google User Data

Fountain+ Exporter

• Document text is read to parse screenplay formatting (Fountain and Mangaplay syntax)
• Parsed text is converted to export formats (PDF, Final Draft, FadeIn, plain text, Fountain)
• All processing occurs locally in your browser — no server-side processing
• Document title is used only to name the exported file
• We do not use Google user data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than the export you initiate

Fountain+ Studio

• Document content is read via the Google Docs API for live preview rendering, screenplay analysis, and export
• The content script injected into Google Docs pages does not read document text — it only relays page-level events (tab focus, document URL) to the Side Panel
• User preferences (theme, font size) are stored locally via chrome.storage — no document content is stored
• Your Google account display name and profile picture are displayed in the Side Panel
• Anonymous feature-usage counts are sent to our first-party analytics endpoint
• We do not use Google user data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than the features you use

Data Sharing

• We do not transmit, sell, or share your document content with any third party
• No document data is sent to external services
• Fountain+ Exporter operates entirely within your browser. Exported files are downloaded directly to your device.
• Fountain+ Studio sends anonymous usage analytics (page views and feature usage counts) to api.absolutelyskint.com. This is a first-party endpoint operated by Absolutely Skint, the developer of Fountain+. It is not a third-party service. No document content, personal data, account details, or Google user data is included in these requests.

Data Storage & Protection

Fountain+ Exporter

• Does not store your document content — anywhere, ever
• Processing is ephemeral: data exists in browser memory only during the active export
• Once the export completes or the dialog closes, no document data remains
• No server-side storage, databases, caches, or logs contain your document content

Fountain+ Studio

• Does not store your document content. Document data is held in memory during the active session and discarded when you close the tab or Side Panel.
• User preferences (theme, font size, Side Panel state) are stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage.local. No document content is included.
• No server-side storage, databases, caches, or logs contain your document content or personal data.

Data Retention & Deletion

Fountain+ Exporter: Retention period is zero. No document data is retained after the export session ends. Since no Google user data is stored, there is nothing to delete.

Fountain+ Studio: Document data retention is zero — held in session memory only. User preferences stored in chrome.storage.local can be cleared by removing the extension or clearing extension data in your Chrome settings (chrome://extensions).

The fountain.plus Website

This section covers the fountain.plus website itself, which is separate from the Fountain+ extensions.

fountain.plus is a static website. We do not collect personal information directly. However, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site.

Google Analytics collects:

• Pages visited and time spent on pages
• Referring website or search engine
• Browser type, operating system, and screen resolution
• Approximate geographic location (country/city level)
• Anonymous usage patterns

This data is aggregated and anonymous. It cannot identify you personally.

Information we do NOT collect on this website:

• Names
• Email addresses
• Phone numbers
• Payment information
• Any personally identifiable information

Cookies: Google Analytics places cookies on your device to track anonymous usage. These are the only cookies used by fountain.plus. See our Local Data Policy for details on how to control cookies.

Our analytics infrastructure routes some anonymous usage data through our endpoint at api.absolutelyskint.com, which forwards it to Google Analytics using the Measurement Protocol. No personal information, document content, or account details are included in these requests.

Third-Party Services

We use Google Analytics (provided by Google LLC) on the fountain.plus website. Google's privacy policy applies to the data they collect: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Fountain+ Exporter is distributed through the Google Workspace Marketplace. Google's terms and privacy policies apply: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Children's Privacy

fountain.plus and the Fountain+ extensions do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
